Well, the fuzzy little monster got his first haircut today. He may have been having a tough time seeing with all that long hair in his face. He looks good, but I will have to give him crap tonight for looking like a girl-dog! We know there is a change in the family when photos revolve around this little fart! He’s just so damn cute, you just can’t help holding him and squeezing him. He’s a baby from word go. He would be content if someone just sits and rubs his belly all day long. He loves to lay in the grass and watch the kids in the park. He sat last Friday afternoon on the rocks under the deck just watching me lay edger stones. So our last shot of the lake before heading inland. We have made the entire Lake Superior Circle Tour. Now our goal is to get back to Moorhead while crossing our paths the least amount possible. We put in around 5 miles of the same interstate to get out of Duluth before heading NW towards Walker. We took a Northern route on some forest roads (thanks for the dusting Ron, I know, I let you lead) We also did 113 South of Itasca. This only left the 20 miles or so from Hawley back to Moorhead. That’s a total trip of around 1750 miles with only about 25-30 miles on the same roads. Call it a good trip. Ron and I made it back across the boarder and down the North Shore to the Lutsen area. Of course, the state parks are all packed. Even the tent sites. We were lucky enought to find a private campground with a site for us. Here we are just getting packed up for our final push across Minnesota. So I pull over on what looks to be a dirt road running down towards the lake. I ask Ron if we should explore a bit. After winding our way down this half dirt, half broken tar road we come out at the water’s edge. We find this very cool island that has been reached by foot and ATV. If we had been thinking, we would have rode our bikes out there and shot some photos. Either way, the water was glassy and super clear. It was cool to see things that many drive by quickly. So we are happy to see a bit more of the lake on the Canadian side. The North shore seems to be filled with islands. All covered in pine trees. The Kings Highway has been great shape and we have not seen any wildlife to speak of. I did happen to notice that I must have lost my watch along the way though. So if anyone sees a gold and silver Bulova between Marquette Michigan and Sault St Marie, or Sault St Maria and Wawa Ontario, let me know! Roughly 50km out of Wawa, Ontario and we get to watch the sun dip behind scattered islands out on the lake. It’s amazing to see as the lake is like glass. We scurry our way to a nice motel for tonight. We put on 505 miles on day two, taking our total trip mileage to 965. We are on track for a nice relaxing Day 3 and 4. We hope to be across Ontario on Sunday and back into the US to stay on MN North shore Sunday night. A person can only take so much of Kanukistan. HA!

Day #2, Our first 150 miles of Ontario Circle Tour… MOOSE!!Posted by: biffster in UncategorizedYou have never seen two guys more paranoid. After crossing the border and adjusting the speedo and GPS to Kilometers, we started noticing the signs. Half of the sign is in French of course. Moose warnings after dark were posted before every swampy lowland. This is all happening as we watch the sun fall. The humorous part were the signs that said: Moose Danger after Dark, For Sur 4km. We assumed For Sure, or it WILL HAPPEN! French meant, more or less, for the next 4KM. You silly Americans! The trip into the UP was amazing. Thick enough woods to make the XM radio lose signal! Curvy roads and actual mountians. We ran past the line of all the famous ones: Powderhorn, Indianhead, Blackjack, etc. After leaving Marquette, Michigan, we found that there are some long straight roads as well. The shot across over to Sault St Marie was straight, but pretty. |
