Packed in tight, we had all the gear we needed and room to ride.  Total miles for Day #1 were just over 450!  We are on pace to do our 1600 in 4 days.

We camped last night in a little county campground in Northern Michigan.  So far, we seemed to have brought everything we needed.  I may be in search of a pillow alternative.  Now we just need to see if we can pack everything back on the bikes as good or better than we had it.

So our views in Northern Wisconsin of the lake are minimal.  It’s very heavily wooded.  We will give them credit, they do have nice roads.  Ron has many more pics to bring back, we will post more later.

Ok, so the dash-cam has to look through my windshield, that’s fine.  I think I forgot how awesome driving into Duluth from the South is!

We got on the road at 8:30am.  Made one pitstop to pick up my camera and had our first gas and lunch break in Brainerd around 11am.  Duluth at 2pm with a quick stop at Aerostich.

Ok Marley, cuteness only goes so far!  This is number 1 of many photos I am sure will show up on this blog.  The new addition to the family happened just last night.

Marley made it home and made it his home real quick.  He will have a nice long weekend with Macy and Michelle while I am out riding.  I’m sure by Monday he will have all kinds of bad habits.

So starting Friday morning, Ron Davies and I will be heading out on our 1600 mile tour around Lake Superior.  We hope to have some Internet access from the road, but blog updates may be limited.  Check in Monday night or Tuesday for pics.

This is ugly, but here is a link to our route:

So ever since I was a kid I had a thing for rafter forts.  Maybe because it was a place I could go that nobody else would go.

Sorry for the fuzzy phone pic, but I had to show off this nice 6′ x 16′ space above the garage.  With a little help from a friend, I was able to get the wood up into the space.  A few screws later and this nice space was created.

Once I get all our crap moved up there, we may have room for the sleds in the garage!

Only a small part of the day’s miles were put on forest road.  This particular location is probably around 10 miles East of Itasca State Park.  It used to be called the Lake Alice Store Road, but I think it has been renamed the Spyder Lake Road.

This trail comes out on the Lake George Road just south of where Val Chatal used to be back in the 70’s-80’s.

I had to take these two photos for my good friend Andy.  He has his little club within a club the “Secret Dudes” that sponsors this section of the trail.  Andy, be sure to let the other Forest Riders know that this section of the sled trail is in good shape with no logs on the trail.  I just thought I would do my part!

Now I just need to finish laying in the edgers all the way around.  I now understand why this is Clay county.  What a mess after a bit of rain.

We think the planters on the end may work full if ice!

Okay, so the benches and deck are done.  The planters are well on their way!  These guys are doing a great job!

So the boys are working hard to have the patio done today.  They were guessing 99% done today.  I would guess that means don’t drink too many beers on the deck tonight as there will be no rails!

It should look nice.  Watch for updates!
